FOCUS Advocate Job Description

Purpose: The position of FOCUS Advocates is to support the FOCUS staff in manning the 24-hour/7 days a week crisis line. The advocate will assist victims through their crisis into a safer place in their lives.

Location:  Primarily FOCUS Advocate work is conducted within Weston County.

Key Responsibilities:  All FOCUS Advocates work under the policy and procedures set in place by the FOCUS Board of Directors. they will also work under the direction of the FOCUS Advocate Coordinator providing assistance to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking in Weston County. Assistance includes but is not limited to transportation, advocacy, court assistance, shelter placement, food and goods procurements and referrals.

Time Commitment:  A FOCUS Advocate must be able to commit to at least three on-calls per month. They must also be able to commit to a one time 40-hour training and one meeting a month.

Qualifications:  18 years of age or older. Eligible candidates must be able to be compassionate towards victims. They also must be able to handle crisis situations. They need to be able to devote some time to FOCUS and the client after a call. They need to be able to drive and have transportation available during on-call time.


The mission of FOCUS is to provide safety, shelter, education, emergency funds and advocacy support for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking to persons in Weston County.
